BOOK COVER DESIGN
I offer competitive rates on book cover design, considering the quality of work and attention to detail you will get. My standard design fee is $800 for a perfect bound (soft cover). However in some cases, the design fee may be as little as $600 or somewhere between $600 and $800. Generally the charge for a dust jacket (hard bound book) is $900 but in some cases it may be less. A deposit is required to get started on your cover.
I respond promptly to clients and begin projects quickly whenever possible. I use graphic design software compatible with most printers. I communicate with your printer to make sure your book cover is delivered in conformity with their guidelines using the specs they provide. I am available to your printer after the files are submitted to deal with any technical problems should they arise.
Cover samples are generally provided to you as PDF screen viewing files or if necessary, as a color print out from a laser printer. Book cover design includes the cover, spine and back, (and inside flaps for hardcover books). I have an extensive collection of fonts and access to very good images for your cover. Generally, I will research and find the images for your cover, but if you find a suitable image, you are welcome to provide it.
To get started on your book cover design I would need to know the final size of your book and in most cases, who your printer will be. I can suggest some printers if necessary. You will need to decide with your printer which book type (perfect bound or hardbound) and book size you want. Additionally, I will need to know the title and any other text that you want to appear on the front of the book cover. Lastly, I will need a short synopsis of your book and/or some ideas from you for the cover. You can also provide me with some samples of book covers (on Amazon for example) that have the general feeling you are aiming for. In order to finish your book cover, the book interior will need to be completely formatted (designed), either by me or by someone else. The total page count of your professionally-formatted interior will determine the precise spine width of the cover. Therefore, the interior must be professionally laid out before the cover can be completed with the spine and back cover. We can get started on the front of the cover while the interior is in process as long as I have the basic information. I will need a number of things later for the book back, including your ISBN number
I offer competitive rates on book interiors considering the quality of work and attention to detail you will get. I charge by the FINISHED page depending upon the complexity of the manuscript. Most book interiors fall in the $4 to $6 range per finished page, but more complex layouts may be $7, $8, or more per page. There is an additional $150 design set up fee. To get an estimate on your book interior and what you will be charged per finished page, I will need to see your completed manuscript. Your manuscript can be emailed to me as an MS Word attachment. The price per finished page will be fixed but since we won’t know the final finished page count yet, we will have to estimate the cost of the book interior.

Having the same person design both your book cover and your book interior will create a more professional and harmonious package. The inside of a book should be as appealing as the cover. If I have created your book cover (or if someone else has), I will try to develop a consistent look between the interior and the cover so that they reflect the same style or fonts.
To get started on your book interior formatting and design you will need to have your manuscript completely finished and edited. You may submit your manuscript in MS word or some similar word processing program via email. Your manuscript should clearly show chapters and sub heads, etc., and it should contain all matter for the book both front and back. You should select a printer before beginning on your book interior formatting. I can suggest some printers if necessary. A deposit is required to get started on your interior.
